Contact the Fire Marshal's Office at (732) 683-8856 or submit a request through your local fire department. Commercial properties are inspected on a periodic schedule.
Do I need a permit for a backyard fire pit?
Recreational fires are generally regulated by local municipal ordinance. Check with your local fire department or municipality. Open burning of brush or larger fires typically requires a permit.
How often should I test my smoke alarms?
Test smoke alarms monthly, replace batteries at least once a year (or use 10-year sealed battery units), and replace the entire alarm every 10 years.
Is a carbon monoxide detector required by law in NJ?
Yes. New Jersey requires CO detectors in residences with fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage. They should be installed near sleeping areas.
How do I become a firefighter in Monmouth County?
Contact your local volunteer fire company to join, then enroll in the Firefighter 1 & 2 Program at the Fire Academy. See the Firefighter 1 & 2 Program tab for details.
Can my child join the fire service before age 18?
