Sheriff Shaun Golden

A lifelong resident of Monmouth County and career law enforcement officer with 25 years of dedicated service. Sheriff Golden serves as Chief Executive of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, overseeing four divisions: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Communications, and Special Operations.

Under his leadership, the agency has developed innovative programs, achieved national accreditation, and become a forefront leader in veterans' services, the opioid epidemic response, and emergency preparedness.

Biography

The Story & Service of Sheriff Shaun Golden

The Monmouth County Sheriff is an elected official authorized by the constitution of the State of New Jersey and carries a three-year term. Sheriff Shaun Golden is the 76th Sheriff of Monmouth County and the Chief Executive of the agency which consists of four divisions: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Communications and Special Operations, as well as the administration of the Monmouth County Police Academy, the Monmouth County Fire Academy and the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management — which played the lead role in preparing for Superstorm Sandy, and coordinating the response and recovery efforts before, during and after the storm.

Throughout the years and under Sheriff Golden's leadership, the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office has developed innovative programs and partnerships. Some of the agency's community safety programs include Citizens Police Academy, VISCOMP (Volunteers in Sheriff's Community Programs), Sheriff Youth Week, Child & Senior ID Programs, STORM, Register Ready, Know Your Zone, Distracted Driving, Students Professional Awareness, Bicycle Safety, Court Security and Explorer Post #1, a partnership with Neptune High School for the Jump Start Law/Criminal Justice students.

The Sheriff, a leader in veterans' services, works on veterans' initiatives, and implemented the MCSO Veteran Service Council advisory committee. The advisory committee provides programs that engage veterans in the community, and helps with access to needed services and training. Sheriff Golden is in the forefront in the battle against drug abuse with HOPE One, a mobile outreach unit and innovative leading approach to combating the opioid epidemic in Monmouth County. He also participates in drug takeback initiatives and has a Project Medicine drop box at the MCSO, that residents have access to 24/7. In other cooperative efforts the agency works with the Office on Aging through Project Lifesaver, an electronic monitoring program for memory impaired seniors and children with Autism.

The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office is nationally accredited in all areas of operation and continues to maintain and exceed those nationally accepted standards. The Sheriff has been instrumental in promoting shared services in Monmouth County, specifically through the expansion of the Monmouth County 9-1-1 Communications Division, to address the ever-increasing needs of Monmouth County first responders. The MCSO also runs the Situational Training and Response Simulator, also known as the STARS Facility, a virtual premiere training center used by our public safety partners in Monmouth County and throughout the State of New Jersey.

Sheriff Golden is a lifelong resident of Monmouth County and was a career law enforcement officer for 25 years, graduating number one in his class at the Monmouth County Police Academy.

He served as a police officer with the Colts Neck and Toms River Police Departments, where he was responsible for the information and technology office, prior to becoming undersheriff of the Monmouth County 9-1-1 Communications Center. He also worked as a certified paramedic for MONOC, serving Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and a volunteer firefighter and EMT.

Sheriff Golden holds a Master's Degree in Administration from Seton Hall University, received his Bachelor's Degree from Monmouth University and Associates Degree from Brookdale Community College. He is a NJ Certified Public Manager, an adjunct professor at Monmouth University with the Department of Political Science and Public Policy and has completed the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (MA-LEEDS).

Sheriff Golden served on the Executive Board of the Constitutional Officer's Association of New Jersey (COANJ) and was past president. He is currently the secretary on the Executive Board of the Sheriff's Association of New Jersey (SANJ), and served on the National Sheriff's Association, heading the Homeland Security and Traffic Advisory Committees. He is a board member of the New Jersey All Counties (NJAC), on the board of trustees for the Monmouth-Ocean Foundation for Children (MOFFC), served as chairman of the Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts Exploring Committee, is chairman of the Annual Blue Mass Committee, and was a member of the 9-1-1 Strike Force of the Federal Communications Commission.
