SHERIFF’S OFFICE HOSTS PARK RANGER TRAINING

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office hosted a day of in-service training for 13 park rangers from the Gateway National Recreation Area of the Sandy Hook Unit on Friday, May 24th. The program was part of the law enforcement training that federal park rangers must complete.

“This is a great example of law enforcement agencies working together,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “I’m glad that training officers from our corrections, communications and law enforcement divisions were able to assist the park rangers with their in-service training so they remain up to date with the latest advances in law enforcement.”

The park rangers who provide law enforcement, fire and EMS at Sandy Hook, were presented with interactive demonstrations of crowd control and riot formations, along with an overview of gang awareness and identification from the Monmouth County Correctional Institution Gang Unit. The group also toured the Monmouth County 9-1-1 Communication Center, the Field Communications Unit and learned about license plate readers through a vehicle demonstration. In addition, they were provided with an overview of the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management and its response and operations during Superstorm Sandy.

“A program like this is absolutely essential to our training,” said Robert Loudon, Operation Chief of the National Park Service, Sandy Hook Unit. “It allows us to keep up with the most current information, tactics and techniques. We are grateful the sheriff’s office was able to host such an important program at the Monmouth County Police Academy.”

The Monmouth County Police Academy run through the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is a regional training facility which offers training by, and for, municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
