SHERIFF’S OFFICE ANNOUNCES PASSING OF K-9 JAKE

It is with deep regret that the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of its K-9 Jake. The ten year old golden retriever, who died of cancer on July 12, served the agency since 2005, upon graduating from the Port Authority Police K-9 Academy.

Jake specialized in explosive detection and worked closely with his partner Sgt. Pat Hamor. Throughout the course of Sgt. Hamor and Jake’s work, the team was called upon to respond to numerous bomb threats and suspicious package alerts at schools, transportation hubs, shopping centers and recreational and sporting events. The team assisted in presidential visits and other high profile gatherings, and, played a key role in explosive detection in the wake of high alert events.

“This is a sad time for the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “A K-9 team shares a special bond. They work and live together, and protect one another, day in and day out. Jake was an extraordinary member of the K-9 Unit. He will be missed and never forgotten.”

The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit presently consists of five Sheriff’s Officer/K-9 handlers and dogs which include three explosive detection teams, two narcotics detections teams and two tracking/patrol teams.
