SAFETY SEAT PROGRAM CHECKPOINTS ANNOUNCED FOR THE SUMMER SEASON
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is announcing the dates and times of the SAFE C.A.R.G.O. (Child and Restraints go Together) Program throughout the summer season. Each month, specially trained sheriff’s officers check the make, model and manufacturer’s number of child safety seats for possible recall, inspect car seat anchors and stabilize seats with additional padding to prevent rocking. The monthly child seat inspection checkpoints which take place at the county garage located at 240 Center Street, near Kozloski Road in Freehold, will be held on July 7th, August 3rd & September 8th from 3:30PM to 6:00PM, no appointment necessary.
The Safe C.A.R.G.O program is funded by state and federal grants. Since the program began in 1999, more than 5,000 cars seats have been inspected. “It is vital that child car seats be inspected by trained officers to ensure they are installed properly, since motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths to children,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “I’m proud the sheriff’s office is a leader in providing child safety seat inspections throughout the year.”
In the past, the agency has teamed with the Monmouth County Department of Public Works to provide winter season indoor safety inspections.
