Sheriff Golden Honors Graduates of Citizen’s Police Academy

Freehold: Sheriff Shaun Golden commended the 31 graduates of the 17th Annual Citizen’s Police Academy on October 29, during a ceremony at the Monmouth County Police Academy, in Freehold. Citizen’s Police Academy strives to build cooperation and understanding between law enforcement and the residents they serve through classroom discussion, guest speakers, tours of law enforcement facilities and group interaction.

“This fine group of graduates should be commended for their desire to serve their communities,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “I thank each one of them for dedicating their time to learn about the responsibilities of law enforcement and how we work together to keep our communities, county and country safe.”

Those selected for the six week program were presented with an overview of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Division, the 9-1-1 Communications Center, the Office of Emergency Management and the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. The graduates became certified in basic first aid and were provided with presentations on Superstorm Sandy, homeland security and forensic science. One of the highlights of the training was a tour of the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.

In addition, graduates were also presented with the opportunity to volunteer in the sheriff’s office VISCOMP program, (Volunteers In Sheriff’s Community Programs). Citizen’s Police Academy is a pre-requisite to become a VISCOMP volunteer.
