SHERIFF PARTICIPATES IN TABLETOP EXERCISE WITH JEWISH LEADERS

Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden joined leaders of Jewish communities and members of law enforcement throughout Monmouth County at a tabletop exercise on Friday, March 1st. The event, which took place at the Monmouth County Fire Academy, was held to discuss and set forth preparedness measures if an emergency or a threat were to impact Jewish institutions such as synagogues, schools or community recreation centers. “This forum is a great opportunity for Jewish community leaders to engage with members of law enforcement and first responders,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “It’s important that all agencies collaborate and work together to set forth security and planning initiatives in an effort to ensure public safety.”

The event, was hosted by the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, the Secure Community Network, a national homeland security initiative of the Jewish Federations of North America, the Jewish Federation of Monmouth County and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security & Preparedness.

Jewish leaders felt it was vital to have all agencies come together for this workshop given the close proximity Monmouth County has to the shore and New York, the recent school shootings and the attacks at synagogues in northern New Jersey last year.

Topics that were discussed included anti-Semitism and active shooter scenarios. Through the tabletop exercise, participants were able to assess scenarios and formulate responses, response actions and discuss proper security measures. “Partnerships and planning produce positive results,” said Sheriff Golden.
