JAIL ON LOCKDOWN AFTER TWO REPORTED CASES OF CHICKENPOX
The Monmouth County Correctional Institution remains on lockdown as a result of two reported cases of the chickenpox. Sheriff Shaun Golden and Warden Brian Elwood in conjunction with the medical team at the jail instituted the lockdown on Sunday, August 12th to ensure the health and well being of the inmate population and staff at the jail. The two inmates with the virus are being treated medically, in isolation. “The Monmouth County Correctional Institution is taking all precautionary measures to protect against the spread of the virus,” said Sheriff Shaun Golden. “Each inmate has been examined and educated about the chickenpox. All of the housing units at the facility continue to be thoroughly disinfected.”
Inmate transports to the courthouse have been cancelled. Video conferencing is being offered in some cases and all programs at the jail have been suspended. Visitation will not be affected since there are no visits on Mondays or Tuesdays.
On Tuesday, August 14th, the entire inmate population will be re-examined, and, a decision as to whether to lift the lockdown will be made.
The Monmouth County Correctional Institution is a 1,328 bed facility on average it houses 1,100 to 1,200 inmates per day.
