child-passenger-safety-week-1Freehold: One of Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden’s top priorities is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our children. That includes while they are passengers in a car, since motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths to children. In fact, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, every 33 seconds, a child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash.

“Many deaths and injuries can be prevented by the proper use of car seats, boosters and seatbelts,” said Sheriff Golden. “That’s why the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is a leader in promoting and educating parents on the proper installation of child safety seats and participating in National Child Passenger Safety Week, September 18-24.”

During the week, trained child safety seat specialists will conduct inspections at the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Center on Sept. 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, from 11:00 am-2:00 pm., no appointment necessary. On Sept. 24, National Seat Check Saturday, child seat inspections will be held from 9 AM – noon. The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office is located at 2500 Kozloski Rd., Freehold. In addition, the sheriff’s office will be offering informational seminars on the importance of utilization and proper installation of child safety seats.

“Please spread the word about these dates in an effort to keep our children buckled up safely and properly restrained while in a vehicle,” said Sheriff Golden.

Should there be a conflict with those dates the sheriff’s office conducts child passenger safety seats inspections the second Wednesday of each month between 3:30pm and 6:30pm, at the Monmouth County Garage located at 240 Center Street in Freehold, NJ.
